Beginners
What: Our Beginners classes are all about ‘doing doing doing’. Under the guidance of certified yoga teachers, you will learn to perform the basic postures correctly in a safe manner. You will learn and practice standing postures in particular, which will form the basis for all other postures. You will become more stable and agile and learn to concentrate. Over time, you will also learn inverted postures such as Sarvangasana/shoulderstand and then Sirsasana/headstand and you will be introduced to props/aids. You will notice that we will repeatedly do the same exercises, but we will always approach them from a different angle. We call this cyclical learning, your practice will be layered like a Japanese chef’s knife.
For whom: Our Beginners classes are especially meant for everyone! So for you if you are starting with yoga, but also if you already do yoga – but have never done Iyengar yoga before. Even if you would qualify yourself as advanced, yes, then we would also like to meet you for the first time in the Beginners classes. For everyone, whether you are young or old, flexible or stiff, fit or not. Working with a fever slows down your recovery, so stay home and stay away when sick.
When: Tuesday 7:45 pm; Wednesday 6 pm; Saturday 11 am
Lesson duration: 75 minutes per lesson. The front door opens 15 minutes before – and closes irrevocably at the start of the lesson.
How often: For the desired result, we advise you to first choose a fixed time in the week and follow this lesson every week. Better yet, do two lessons a week or, one lesson and one time practice at home.
Result: Students often experience these yoga classes as a refreshing change in their working week. As a result, you will feel better about yourself due to more stability and flexibility in your body. Experienced people can only develop when they descend back to the basics, and thus discover the essence of yoga. Yoga teachers in training learn how to teach here.

General
What: With the Iyengar method, we work step by step from the Beginners lessons to freestanding Sirsasana and Sarvangasana and you are encouraged to practice independently on a regular basis. In our General lessons, we expect you to master the inverted asanas and be able to do backbends such as pushing up from the floor in Urdva Dhanurasana. There is a monthly recurring pattern in which we delve further into:
Days 1 to 7: Standing Asanas
Days 8 to 14: Forward bends
Days 15 to 21: Backbends
Days 22 to 24: Surprise asanas, Arm Balancings
Days 24 to 31: Restorative Asanas or Pranayama
In these lessons, you will recognize the skill of a certified Iyengar yoga teacher: multitasking and offering alternatives to students who need it (not newbies).
Who it’s for: Our General classes are meant for everyone who has taken weekly Iyengar yoga classes for at least one year. Is the name ‘Iyengar yoga’ new to you but have you done other yoga? Then come in with your ‘Welcome to Yogaschool Amsterdam ticket’ via the Beginners classes and have a chat with the teacher after your second class to find out if you can continue to the General classes. If you suffer with chronic or menstrual problems, or you are pregnant; send us a message before booking a class.
When: Monday 6:30 pm ; Tuesday 6:00 pm; Wednesday 7:30 pm; Friday 10:00 am; Saturday 9:00 am; Sunday 9:30 am.
Lesson duration: 90 minutes. The front door opens 15 minutes before – and closes irrevocably at the start of the lesson.

What: Our Advanced yoga classes are Iyengar yoga lessons at the highest level. You can independently do Salamba Sirsasana and Salamba Sarvangasana; strong backbends like Dwipada Viparita Dandasana, various armbalancings and socalled knotting postures. You also know the different sitting postures such as Padmasana and variations. You feel comfortable in your own practice and practice independently at least twice a week. For whom: To be able to follow these lessons, you have followed intensive Iyengar yoga lessons for at least 2-3 years. You can handle the level, you signal blockages, know what to do and continue to challenge yourself in this. Individually and in the group.
